Miley Cyrus: Sexy ‘Can’t Be Tamed’ Style Inspired by Joan Jett, Blondie
- June 10th, 2010

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that 17-year-old pop tart Miley Cyrus has been using her wardrobe to make a major statement of late. Like former Disney stars Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera before her, Cyrus has enlisted the aid of some uber-sexy garments — thigh-baring bodysuits, curve-hugging black leather, and sky-high heels — to prove that she’s not innocent Hannah Montana anymore. On the cover of her aptly named album “Can’t Be Tamed,” out June 22, the teen idol puts on the tough-girl act, exposing her midriff and rocking a $1,045 Robin’s Jean black leather jacket and matching $825 studded leggings. “I think the album cover was a strong statement saying in the most simple way that she can’t be tamed literally and metaphorically,” Cyrus’s stylist Simone Harouche, who has also worked with Aguilera and J.Lo, tells StyleList. “She’s growing up, getting older, doing her own thing, and she’s in control now. The outfit we chose for the cover represented that.” “She is really into leather [and] Robin’s Jean’s leather jacket is such a cool staple piece,” says Harouche. “It’s embellished without being overly done and the fit is amazing. It’s the perfect example of rock-and-roll clothing.” And while one would think Cyrus’s current pantless obsession might be inspired by Gaga, Rihanna, and Beyonce, Harouche says the teen is taking style cues from a much earlier time. “She’s influenced by classic rock musicians such as Joan Jett and Blondie,” Harouche reveals. “I think Miley’s style is a natural progression of her growing up and being influenced by the music that inspires her or the visuals of certain periods in music.”
